If process builders (designers, analysts, developers, etc.) hope to produce exceptional results then they must create exceptional process designs, what may be termed as elegant process design. Building an elegant design requires having a process model, observing it critically and then simplifying it in order to achieve improvement. This applies even when we are seeking conformance or compliance because the simplest good design is far more likely to produce the desired process outcome than is the best complex design.
